Metal Alliance is pleased to announce the expansion of our metal roof and wall testing and certification program into Texas. In addition to Florida Product and HVHZ approvals the program now includes Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) approvals giving customers coast-to-coast assurance. The expanded program means that contractors and specifiers in Texas now have a supply partner with over 75 TDI‑approved metal roof and wall assemblies certified for use in their state’s windstorm region.

Texas Windstorm Inspection Program and TDI Approvals
Texas is home to one of the most hurricane- and high-wind-prone coastlines in the US. This region faces extreme weather risks that can cause significant damage if construction materials aren’t up to standard. To protect homeowners, builders, and insurers, the Texas Department of Insurance established the Windstorm Inspection Program to ensure that structures built in designated coastal counties meet specific building and material performance standards, including roof and wall assemblies. Products that meet TDI’s strict requirements for wind uplift, water penetration and other performance criteria receive TDI approval, certifying that they are deemed acceptable for use in designated windstorm‑prone regions of Texas. When approved products are installed in accordance with approval specifications and inspected for compliance, no additional testing is required, simplifying the process for TDI Windstorm Certification.

Benefits to Manufacturers, Contractors and Specifiers
Code And Insurance Alignment – Many Texas coastal and high‑wind areas require or strongly encourage use of products approved by TDI. Satisfy those requirements by accessing a wide selection of over 75 approved systems.
Enhanced Peace of Mind – Using TDI‑approved products means the manufacturing and product assembly has been independently evaluated for performance under the windstorm / high‑wind criteria set out by TDI.
Competitive Edge in Project Bidding – Reduce time spent verifying compliance and strengthen project submittals by using pre-approved metal roof and wall systems.
Streamlined Installation and Windstorm Certification – Installers benefit from fewer surprises during project permitting and inspection knowing a product has TDI approval up front resulting in a simplified certification process.

TDI Benefits Extend Beyond Texas
While the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) approvals are designed primarily for projects within the state’s designated windstorm regions, the benefits extend well beyond Texas.
Proof of Performance Under Extreme Conditions – Products that achieve TDI approval have passed rigorous testing for wind uplift, structural integrity, and weather resistance making them valuable for projects in any area prone to high winds, hurricanes, or severe weather, including coastal regions in other states.
Added Credibility and Assurance – TDI’s standards are among the most stringent in the country. Contractors, architects, and building owners outside of Texas often use TDI approvals as a benchmark for quality and reliability – similar to how our Florida Product Approvals or Miami-Dade NOAs are recognized nationally.
Simplified Code Compliance and Submittals – For engineers and specifiers, having products already tested to a known standard can streamline submittals or code compliance reviews in other jurisdictions. Even if TDI approval isn’t required, it demonstrates that the system has been independently verified for performance and safety.
Expanded Market Versatility – For distributors, fabricators, and installers, working with TDI-approved assemblies can make it easier to bid on projects in multiple states, since the same tested systems can often meet or exceed requirements elsewhere with minimal additional documentation.
Peace of Mind for Building Owners – Whether in Texas or beyond, building owners gain confidence knowing their roofing or wall systems were tested to withstand extreme wind conditions—an advantage in regions seeing stronger storms and changing weather patterns.
